John Murray: Continues winning run

John Murray made it 31 wins and no losses following his unanimous points win over Karim El Ouazghari to hold onto his European lightweight title.

Murray looked ring rusty and struggled to get into any sort of rhythm, despite winning the early rounds.

Ouazghari caused plenty of problems for Murray but faded late on where Murray showed his true class and dominated. Both fighters were deducted a point late on, the challenger for an attempted head-butt and Murray for punching to the back of the head.

Murray will now be hoping to get a fight with fellow Brit – Kevin Mitchell. Mitchell hasn’t been in action since being dismantled by Michael Katsidis.

Promoter Frank Warren tried to make the fight early this year but couldn’t agree terms, but now Mitchell has changed his mind and is looking to get the fight on.

This would be a great all English clash which would really whet the appetite for British boxing fans. Both fighters could do with this fight which would be a great launch pad for their careers.

Hopefully the fight can get made as it could be a fantastic war between the two; a real old-fashioned tear-up but if Mitchell is focussed I can see him winning a close points decision.
